Hello and welcome to my fotopic.net site.
Please have a look around, but be warned the site is still under construction. I hope to provide a selection of new and old images, mainly of locomotives but alas multiple units may also feature too!
Images on the site are a mixture of scanned colour transparency or digital originals.
My main camera is a Mamiya 645 Pro with 3 prime lenses; I find this manual focus camera to be very precise and still capable of producing an image of quality comparable with only the best of the digital sensors. I also have a Nikon D200 D-SLR kit with 17-55 lens for "bad weather" photography; or where the medium format camera would be too bulky.
I have used most of the colour transparency films available, after some careful scrutiny, for me, personally I have settled on Fuji Provia 100 and 400. Most of the time the 100 is push-processed to 200; however I find the 100 more than capable and suitable in bright sunny conditions.
The colour transparencies are scanned using an Epson 4490 perfection flat-bed scanner. |

I'm a traction and rolling stock engineering manager for a major train operating company based in Norwich. I have worked in the railway industry for over 12 years and enjoy very much my work and hobby.
I have been photographing railway subject since the late 1980s; however working in the industry seemed to decline my interest. It wasn't until I went with a good friend to a slide show in late 2003 that my interest for railway photography was rekindled and despite his advice at the time bought a Mamiya 645 Pro medium format camera. I still prefer to take photographs on slide - just how long will the current digital media last? I suppose obsolescence will take hold and one day production of slide film shall cease.. but until that sad day I am very much in favour of colour transparency.
You'll often see me about lineside in Norfolk, Suffolka and Essex, or the adjoining counties. I also like to return home to my native North East and its surrounding beautiful countryside.. so if you see me about, please do say hello.

 | 1st Jan 2009 to 31st Dec 2009 | North East 2009
A collection of images from my native North East taking during 2009. My priority as always is to try and show a variety of locations and traffic types.
As the year progressed it became clear my focus needed to be on the short-lived National Express livery; their tenure as operator of the 400 plus mile East Coast route terminating in November 2009.
Changes to the backdrop at a few locations were also recorded, as were a few new locations created thanks to our competitor mode of transport - the highway.
Enjoy.
